Rescue

SCIWC has rescued purebred Irish Wolfhounds for over 40 years. All individuals or families interested in a Rescue Hound must have an Adoption Application on file. The club became a 501(c)3 in 2014. The program is responsible for rehabilitation and placement of abused, neglected, surrendered or abandoned Irish Wolfhounds. Hounds that come into the club’s rescue program are evaluated, spayed/neutered, given shots, microchipped, put on heart worm preventative and given medical treatment if needed. For further information, please contact Ann Sury, SCIWC Rescue Chair through the ‘Inquire’ button below.

Support

SCIWC is a resource for information and support of all things Wolfhound. Our membership has a broad range of knowledgeable members that have been involved in hound activities and used a wide range of products and services. New rescue owners are provided mentors. Hound owners facing health issues with their hounds can find comfort through counsel of those who have experienced similar issues. Experience is a plus in finding advice from the experts and knowing your best options for treatments or products. Feel free to check out our club facebook page or submit a request for more information on the website via the ‘Inquire’ button below.

Education

SCIWC supports the views and mission of the Irish Wolfhound Club of America and the Irish Wolfhound Foundation. The club encourages the participation of hound owners in medical studies for longevity, doing research on the breed. For those seeking an Irish Wolfhound puppy, we encourage research to learn about the breed by attending events, talking to owners or breeders and know what questions to ask to educate yourself prior to ownership. We host ‘members only’ events and participate in activities open to the public. SCIWC has also hosted the past two Irish Wolfhound Breeder’s Symposiums in the Dallas metroplex. Social

Founded as a social club, SCIWC appreciates the diversity of hound interests within our group and encourages members to learn and participate in the many activities that hounds and their owners are involved in, including obedience, confirmation, lure coursing and therapy. We are always up for a good get together. For education, SCIWC has also hosted ‘Meet the Breed’ at several AKC All Breed Dog Shows. The club also hosts an annual picnic for members and participates in festivals across the state of Texas giving hound owners a venue to meet one another and the public an opportunity to meet this magnificent breed.
